I understand that trucks will do the most damage, but what I was just offering was that those gas taxes were originally designed for highway upkeep and that passenger cars with wildly different gas mileage should be inflicting similar amounts of damage.

My friend's 1970 1/2 Firebird (6 mpg) would not do more than 10 times the damage of a Prius, would it? More damage surely, but no way would it be 10 times (doubtful it would even be twice), yet the Prius would pay 10 times less for the 'right' of using the roads.

It probably makes a lot of sense for Pioneer to pay the $4, as it gives them a USP. "One of the few (only?) receivers to which an iPhone/iPad can stream".
If it becomes more widely licensed, it's no longer a USP. It's probably not worth $4 any more, and competing standards will become more common.

If the hardware isn't that much different from the iPad 2 then why would they give it to devs early?
Same question I had. Just run the game at 960x540 on the iPad 2 to simulate running the game. Even if it's clocked differently, they can approximate that too. Only difference would be if they stuffed more RAM in the iPhone 5/4s, which I doubt.

Wow... short sighted on the networks part. I'm surprised.... no difference than just having another TV in your house, just on your Tablet. It would be interesting to know more about their motivation behind this... maybe they want to go direct? In other words, maybe Discovery and the other channels want to sell direct subscriptions and not go through channel partners like Time Warner?
If that is the case... I smell disaster for the networks. Who wants to buy individual channels for their computers, iPads or other devices? Not me? It would have to be dirt cheap.

I bought a Verizon iPad because I have an AT&T iPhone. I figured that if one doesn't work, the other will. I saw no need to get two devices on the same network.

Could be they made many more Verizon models. Could also be that ATT models are being bought for resale overseas. Nothing wrong with that, which is what the OP was implying, I think. Could also be a combination of the two, of course.
Thankfully, there's no moral, ethical, or legal responsibility saying what you should do with your legally obtained, publicly available tech item. You can use it, blend it, sell it to your neighbor, use it as a frisbee, or even carry it on a plane and once you land, you can do all those same things EVEN if your plane landed near a bunch of Asians instead of near a bunch of white people. Crazy, huh?

I have been thinking about this a lot. I am anarchist politically, but lets put that aside for this discussion.
Lets assume that democrats in political office by and large do care about issues of poverty and inequality. Lets take them at their word for a just a moment.
The reality is that even if they "care", they are not impacted by these issues in the real world. They come from a position a privilege, one in which the reality of actually needing and using social welfare programs will never effect them.

Push works AWESOME on Kerio Connect 7 to the iPhone, 6 worked great also. It uses an outlook connector for it's black magic. Email are generally pushed to and appear on my iPhone within a second of hitting the server.
Before SLS I used mail server software on linux. The general idea was that Apple promoted SLS as THE server to use with an iPhone, which apparently isn't completely true. I don't think I want to pay a yearly subscription for another mail server again.

The U.S. Military has been using Apple Computers for years. I know for a fact they were crucial in the development of RFID tracking used in logistics. They were also more difficult to hack into and required less IT support to maintain them in the field.
I was more referring to mobile devices, but you're right. They're still not anywhere near as widespread as Windows machines (at least in the branches I interact with), but I guess that's the case pretty much everywhere.

While I personally think that OSX 10.7 Lion will be made available via DVD, I also think there will be USB-Stick versions. Having had a couple general anesthesia surgeries, I've found the experiences from my childhood and early adulthood remarkably similar.
1) Wheeled into the prep room, and doctor inserts IV with some sort of relaxation medicine - everything gets really happy, warm and drowsy all at the same time. I start babbling like an idiot.
2) Wheeled into the operating room (still conscious), doctor places mask over my face and says, "breathe deeply." I take a couple deep breaths while remaining conscious enough to see other doctors breaking out the tools and scalpals.
3) I panic, thinking "ohmygod I'm still conscious, I'm going to see and feel everything. It's going to be just like the 60-Minutes episode they aired in the 80s about patients remaining awake during surgery. I'm going to go insane with the pain and agony!"
4) On about the third deep breath I fall unconscious.
5) Wake up moments later in the prep room feeling sick to my stomach and sore. Throw up. Doctors pump some anti-nausea meds into my IV and everything is OK.
6) Realize that it's three hours later than "a moment ago" and that I'm really sore.
Seriously though, the first operation when they knock you out is scary, but the anticipation is much worse than the actual experience. Hope all goes well for you...

seriously just shut ur pretty faces with the tired backlit keyboard anthem. this is like the least desirable feature esp since it has a direct impact on battery life.
Backlit keyboard is a nice aesthetic feature for many. It's also extremely useful for those of us who type while looking at the keyboard and tend to do a lot of traveling at night/underground. Plus, since all iterations of the keyboard have user-controlled brightness levels, the argument against it as a power sink fail. In my opinion, and as someone who really wants a backlit keyboard, the best argument against the feature is that it has the potential to increase the price to maintain such a large margin.
The TDP of the C2D and 320M combined is about 25W, I believe. The i5 2357m is a 1.4GHz proc with the HD3000 core and a TDP of 18W. By including this as the base processor, the battery life would inherently improve (without increasing the size of the battery), but a little bit of internal space would open up where the 320M was. This could be used for an SDHC card on the 11", or increased battery, or maybe an additional USB port. My wish would be to bump the base speed of the i5 up to 1.6GHz or even 1.8GHz and maintain a TDP of 25W.
A larger screen and/or thinner bezel would be nice, but I'd settle for coloring the darn thing black (without the weight of the glass over the screen). The bezel on my MacBook Pro is fantastic in comparison; I find the silver distracting.
A 2lb 11" Air with an i5 proc at 1.8GHz, a 256GB SSD, backlighting, 8+ hour battery-life, and a starting price of $100 less (dream on, I know), and there is no way I could keep myself from buying one.

What will the future of air travel holds?
1. Boomless supersonic jet (NYC to LAX in 2.5 hours).
2. inexpensive jetblue/southwest flight in continent, price point $200 round trip, todays money of course
3. weight/bag restriction to increase fuel economy-saving us money
4. packing sardines even tighter allowing more seats (I hope this will not come to pass).
5. computer/machine pilot (yes, they can handle landing and take-off)--eliminating overpaid pilots and terrorism too
6. no food service (don't worry no one will starve to death, we are in a middle of a obesity epidemic for god sake)- saving weight and money
7. reduce flight attendance by at least 50% (no food see above), and add a "useful" security guard to control rowdy passenger - saving us money
If you can't reduce the weight of a LCD or OLED or whatever screen, don't add it to every seats. I think the future is clear and it looks like it will diverge into two paths. 1) basic travel that allows people to do it more frequently or 2) travel in comfort and pay more thus less frequent travel. I'm not talking about first class travel here.
Think about it, wouldn't you want to travel anywhere in the US more frequently say 7+ times a year, or 1 or 2 times a year and have all the amenities (meal, iPod, movies and overpaid pilots)?
